Happy Happy New Year

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year!

Here’s a cute paper banner that I made using cardstock and an old book pages. Each pendant is zig-zag stitched around on my sewing machine and has scallops cut into the cardstock and I added a large rhinestone to each pendant too. I stamped the letters in different bright inks and used different colors of organdy ribbon to tie them all together.

Caught Another One

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

I made another Fairy Specimen box.  I base coated the wooden box in a purple paint and then used Tim Holtz crackle paint over top. I love this crackle paint alot, I need more, I’m almost out!:) I also aged the box with inks, it helps the crackles stand out. The fairy has purplish blue wings and is hold a big star wand, I added some fake grass at her feet. I then added a tag, key and a piece of an old wooden measuring stick to the outside of the box.

Stream Of Consciousness

Friday, December 19th, 2008

I wanted to get away from all the tiny collage work I’ve been doing lately with my jewelry and do something bigger. I’ve been inspired lately by alot of different artists to try to stretch my personal style, so this one is a little different than what I normally do.

I started with a 10×10 chunky canvas and streaked it in yellow ink then added pages from a vintage music sheet (that I first white washed) and a page from a vintage math book, then took pages from a vintage children’s book (also white washed) and free hand cut some scalloped edges and inked them in black. I also stamped some swirly images in yellow ink on some of the pages. After those were applied I added some images of butterflies and hand drew some antenna and specimen numbers and the words “Stream of Consciousness”. I’m really happy with the results!

Here’s a couple of bird related soldered pendants. I love that birds are such a popular theme right now. I added vintage music paper to the backgrounds.

Lots and Lots of Pendants

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I’m really, really excited to now be selling some of my soldered collage art pendants in a wonderful shop in Midway KY called the Damselfly! www.damselflybeads.com  If you are ever in the area Midway (not to far from Lexington and Versailles) is a wonderful place to spend the day. Downtown is nothing but fantastic shops and restaurants. Stop in the Damselfly and say Hi to Mary, if you’re lucky one (or more) or her sweet dogs will be there to greet you and go across the street and have lunch at Quirk’s, yummy sandwiches, soups, desserts (and lots of vegetarian options:)).

I snapped pictures of the pieces before I took them to the shop, here are some of them.

Winter Fairy

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

I made another hanging postcard collage of a winter fairy, a cute boy in a big coat and hat, I colored them red and added a big button to his coat. His wings and the snowflakes have clear glass glitter on them. I found some cool silver tinsel that looks like the old kind we used to put on our tree when I was little and I added some to the top and bottom of the collage.

Beveled

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

On my recent shopping spree at my local stained glass store I also picked up some tiny squares of beveled glass, they are flat on one side and beveled on the other and come in all different shapes sizes. I got some 3/4″ x 3/4″ squares and made myself a monogram necklace with them. I used the letter “H” from an old children’s book of nursery rhymes on one side and a piece of vintage music sheet on the other. FYI: If you decide to give these a try yourself you will probably need wider copper tape than you do for microscope slides as the glass on these is much thicker.
