Hurry Up Spring!

Friday, April 6th, 2018

I guess I think if I keep making cards with a Spring theme it will hurry up and get here? But there’s snow predicted for my area tonight, so I guess not? 🙂

These are the stamps of our lives….

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

I just got some really cute stamps from The Stamps of Life and had fun making a couple of cards with them.

This first card combines two sets “banners4all” and “tress2build”. I used all polka dotted images from both sets to go along with the polka dot paper from Echo Park. I used Close To My Heart Inks for both cards, they really do have the best inks for clear stamps. I love the little birdies, so sweet!

This next card uses the “kites2fly” set, it has lots of different patterns for great combinations. I also love the sayings in this set, lots of uplifting (ha,ha) phrases.

Heart Hangers

Friday, February 4th, 2011

I’m sorry it’s been so long since my last post. The year has hardly begun and already it’s been rough. I’ve had alot of health issues and almost two weeks ago I unexpectedly lost my Grandfather (which has been terribly hard for the whole family).

But I’ve been trying to keep busy, mostly by redoing my work space. I’m almost done, it looks so great and functions so much better than before, I feel so organized! I’ll post before and after pics soon.

In the meantime here’s a few collages I’ve made recently with the thought of Valentine’s Day and love. I took white chipboard and cut out a heart shape (aprox. 5 1/2″ square) and adhered some vintage music sheet and patterned papers that I’d whitewashed and “sponged” with painted bubble wrap. I then added German paper scrap birds, vintage text, ribbons, sewed on buttons, etc. I punched holes at the top and added eyelets and wrapped cream wire for hangers. I think they turned out really pretty, they have a very shabby chic look to them. I love the blue one so much I might even keep it for myself:) The other two are currently for sale in my Etsy Shop.

Fly Free

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

I just can’t seem to stop making things with birds 🙂 Here are a couple of new mixed media necklaces I made last week.

I enjoyed making my Alice in Wonderland Domino charms so much I used a larger domino, inked it blue and stamped a really cool flying bird on it and then soldered around the edges, adding two sets of jump rings to the top to hang from the ball chain. I also adhered a glass rhinestone to the front for a little added bling:

I also made this necklace with a pretty silver bird charm and a tiny soldered word charm that says “fly away” on vintage music paper, also on a ball chain:

Almost Antiques

One of the great old children’s books I got recently was in really bad shape, pages torn, falling apart and crumbling but it wasn’t surprising considering the book was dated 1918, it’s almost 100 years old! It has some simply gorgeous illustrations in it, lots of cute animals reading books and fairies in flowers, they are simply lovely! Here are a few soldered pendants I’ve made with some of the illustrations.

An adorable frog on a lily pad reading:

A trio of birds reading / singing:

A sweet bunny rabbit reading, I love the little bird perched on the top of the book:

a dandy black crow all dressed up and strutting around (I added a black patina to the solder on this one):

a dapper fairy sitting in a morning glory (this one is going to my mom for her birthday, she loves fairies and is a world class gardener)

Caged

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

I recently got a really cool stamp set featuring bird cages from Catherine Moore: http://www.characterconstructions.com/  , I love her art work and her stamps are great!

I made a few ATC’s (Artist Trading Cards) with them. I started by making a base ( 3 1/2″ x 2 1/2″) for my card from black cardstock and vintage music sheets, I then added a vintage bird image. Then using black Staz-On ink I stamped the bird cage on a transparency sheet and attached it to the card with tiny brads. I then stamped part of one of the words on a tiny tag, it says ” (cage ‘d”  and tied some hemp string around the tag and added it to the card with foam tape. All three cards were done the same way except the one with the quote, I turned the transparency over and stamped in white Staz-On ink a quote from Emily Dickinson that says “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul”. I love old bird images and think these cards came out really neat.
