Hocus Pocus

Tuesday, October 8th, 2013

I love to incorporate stamping with my mixed media collages. Here’s some more info on how I made these fun Halloween wall decorations.

Witches Bingo Card

Using a vintage BINGO card as a base I stamped tiny stars all over in black ink. I made a copy of a vintage photo and tinted the girls clothes with alcohol markers, added witch hat brads to their heads and also some vintage book text. I layered this onto black cardstock trimmed with deckle edge scissors and adhered it to my bingo card. For the medallion I layered a plain punched circle from yellow cardstock onto a scalloped circle from black cardstock and on top of that I adhered a black cat which I stamped onto white cardstock, embossed using black embossing powder and cut out. To the top corners of the bingo card I added some large eyelets and tied some ribbon to hang it from.

Boo Bingo Card

For this card I did similar treatments on the photo, card and hanger but instead of the medallion I added some triangles cut from purple and yellow cardstocks and added stamped letters to each flag to spell out “BOO!”.

Both of these (and a few other Halloween themed collages) are currently available here in my Etsy shop.

Stitch Me In

Here’s another paper and felt collage, this time I wanted to try something new with my sewing machine so I adhered a bird onto vintage music paper and then lightly sketched a bird cage on the paper and then sewed over my pencils lines with my sewing machine, I think it turned out pretty cool and I’ll be trying this technique more often. It was a little nerve wracking knowing if I totally messed up I couldn’t fix it but I think with some more practice I can do lots more “free hand” stitching.

My Froggie Friend

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

I found a really neat black and white illustration of a frog in a vintage children’s book and thought he’d make a great friend for one of my fairies:) I made a copy of him and colored him with colored pencils and then added a sweet fairy holding a  rhinestone wand hopping a ride on his back. I also added a mushroom, frogs and mushrooms just go together, right? 🙂 They are sitting on a hill of polka dotted paper and the background is vintage book paper that’s been white washed. I hung it on a cute metal hanger and added the word “Dream”.
