Have a Narwhal of a Time

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

The challenge this week over on the Lawnscaping Challenge blog is to use text.

Narwhal Card

I use two Lawn Fawn stamp sets, Critters in the Sea and Critters Ever After. I wanted to turn my cute whale into an even cuter Narwhal (If you don’t know these are whales that have one large spiral horn on the top of their head, I love them) so I added the horn from the unicorn stamp to turn him into one.

narwhal steps

I started by curving the text stamp into a wave shape, I love the flexibility of clear stamps! Then I stamped it repeatedly onto vellum paper and cut it out with a wave shape at the top.

I then stamped my whale into polka dot pattern paper (My Mind’s Eye) cut it out and inked the edges using a sponge dauber.

narwhal steps

I stamped just the top of the unicorn onto scrap brown paper twice and cut out the horns, layering them to make one longer horn. And glued it to the whale’s head.

I adhered my vellum paper onto striped pattern paper (also My Mind’s Eye) and blue cardstock, putting the adhesive on the vellum where the ribbon would go so it wouldn’t show. Then wrapped the ribbon around adding a knot and button. I adhered those layers to my brown cardstock base.

Lastly I stamped stars and colored them with a glitter gel pen and tucked the Narwhal a little under the vellum. I think he turned out so cute!

A Mermaid’s Tale

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

Continuing with an ocean theme, I made this mermaid collage. I’ve done lots of collage art with fairies inside jars and I thought why not a mermaid? So I turned the jar on it’s side and put actual sand in the bottom. I also added a background of vintage inspired map paper, a label, some actual small sea shells and a real working compass. Then I wrapped the entire canvas in some netting. I love how it turned out. I need to think of more things to capture in jars 🙂

I’d Like to be Under the Sea…..

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

It felt so good to stamp today! After spending 6 long weeks recovering from surgery it felt so good to sit down and be creative!

I needed to make a couple of birthday cards and the one I made for my mother in law (who loves the sea and anything nautical) fit perfectly with the latest Lawnscaping challenge Stamp a Scene . All the stamps are from Lawn Fawn’s Critters of the Sea set and all the pattern papers are from My Mind’s Eye.

I’d like to be, under the sea…..

The latest Lawnscaping challenge theme is “Don’t forget the inside”. I usually do and just stamp a sentiment on the inside of my cards 🙂 On the front of the card I used my Silhouette to cut an SVG from Lettering Delights, it’s part of a submarine, I just enlarged the porthole and cut only it out. I added grey brads for the bolts and a clear transparency sheet underneath for the “glass”. On the inside is the dolphin from the Lawn Fawn “Critters of the Sea” set, along with bubbles and the sentiment.

Hug Me!

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Here’s my latest entry for the current Lawnscaping Challenge, the theme is Clean and Simple. Boy, is that a hard one for me! 🙂 I love pattern paper backgrounds, grunge, embellishments, inking edges, etc., etc. and clean and simple is not my usual style. But I really love the card I made. The little octopus from the Critter of the Sea set is just so cute and she wants to hug you with all eight of her arms 🙂

The pattern paper is from DCWV, the tiny flower and alpha stamps are from Close to My Heart, die cuts from Nestabilities, ribbon from Martha Stewart, home made baker’s twine, octopus and bubbles stamps from Lawn Fawn.

Went to Sea in a Beautiful Pea Green Boat

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

I am SO happy with the way this card turned out. It’s my second for the latest Lawnscaping “Critters” challenge. I got to thinking about the different animals in the sets and realized one has an owl and another has a cat, so I die cut a boat for an Owl and the Pussycat card. Stamps are from Lawn Fawn, papers are from My Minds Eye and the boat die cut is a Silhouette shape.

Make a Splash!

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

Here’s a card for another Lawnscaping challenge. The theme this time is “Critters”, of course I couldn’t resist make a couple of cards. This one will actually be my step mothers birthday card, she and my dad just got back from Florida and I thought this would be perfect with the sweet dolphin. Stamp is from Lawn Fawn and the pattern papers are from My Mind’s Eye.

Naturally

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Here’s a few soldered glass pendants I did this week, each  with a nature theme.

This one is an illustration from a vintage children’s book from 1929, it’s a sweet girl kneeling in the water at the ocean’s edge and she’s holding up a star fish, I added the words “mermaid dreams” cut from a vintage dictionary.

This one is also from a vintage children’s book, it’s a fawn running through the forest and I added the words “Oh, deer”.

This last one is a illustration from a really cool nature book from 1934, it’s a spiders web in a meadow, there’s even a tiny spider in the web, I think it’s a really unique and lovely illustration.
