Soldering Away pt.3

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Here’s the last of the jewelry I made this week, all cute animals:)

The first is a Queen Bee pin, I used images from an old field guide of a bee and honey comb, there is also a gold bee hive charm hanging from it.

The next two pins are made with adorable kitty and doggie pictures with the words “Best Friend”. I added black patina to the solder of all these pins, I love the aged look it adds.

Soldering Away pt.2

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Here’s a couple more of the solder pieces I made yesterday. The first one is a group of pretty fairy friends with the words “Joy is great friends”, I added some orange and pink shades of ink to the old book page to add more color and tie it all together. I also soldered around a very old vintage button (that still has thread in it!) and hung that from the bottom.

The next one is another Paris themed collage with two lovers standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, there is a postage cancellation on the glass itself and some pretty beads ( one is heart shaped) hanging below.

Soldering the Day Away

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Sorry I haven’t posted in awhile, I’ve had the flu:( Today’s the first chance I’ve had to work on any collage stuff so I made several soldered pins and necklaces today. I’ll post them all over the next few days but here’s my last Halloween one for the year. A cute little witch pin (I named her “Witchy Poo”) holding a big pumpkin, soldered between microscope slides and a black patina added to the solder.

and another piece, a necklace with a tiny dancing fairy on her tippy toes on a hill as a butterfly goes by. The charm says “Imagine”.

More Halloween Jewelry

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

I worked on some more soldered jewelry for Halloween today. I made another fun witch with the word “Wicked” and an old rusty star in a microscope slide pendant, I stamped an image of Edgar Allen Poe with a raven on his head on an old book page with the word “Nevermore” and cut a microscope slide in half to make a smaller pendant for a cute little wizard in a starry hat, his says “Cast a Spell”. I added a black patina to the solder to make them black and aged looking.

Patina is easy to use, it’s a liquid that comes in a bottle (you can get it on-line or at a stain glass store), just put some on a cotton ball and rub it on clean solder, it changes color right away by a cool chemical reaction.

Take Flight

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Here’s my latest collage necklace. I took an image from an old field study of butterflies and collaged the words  “A Loud Rushing of Wings” cut from an old art book over top. I sandwiched it between two microscope slides and soldered it. Then I added two silver wing charms to either side.

Swim with Me Across the Seas

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

I’ve really been making alot of soldered pendants lately:) Here’s one I did last week with a collage of a mermaid. I used an old photo of a bathing beauty and attached her lower half to the tail of a fish from an old field guide and *presto* a mermaid! The background is made from a white washed book page and sanded blue cardstock. The quote is cut from an old art book. I attached a pretty blue and gold glass bead to the bottom of the soldered pendant.

Button, Button, Who’s Got the Button?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

This is one of my latest collage pendants. I took a very old and worn vintage button and attached it to a piece from an old book page that I white washed. I attached the word “wonder” (I love that word for some reason:)) also cut from an old book to the front. Sandwiched the whole thing between glass and soldered around and also added a dark patina to the solder. Then I took an old wooden game piece and soldered it as well. Then strung them both on a gold ball chain for what I think is a really cool looking necklace.

Down the Rabbit Hole

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

One of my favorite books (and movies) is Alice In Wonderland, I get alot of inspiration from them. Today I made a set of soldered pendants with some wonderful rubber stamps I have that show the different characters on postage stamps. I stamped, colored and collaged them then sandwiched them between 1 1/2″ square pieces of glass and then soldered them. I also added a postage mark to the outside of the glass.

Here they are all together:

Happy Halloween!

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Yeah, yeah I know it’s early but I’m already staring on Halloween stuff so I thought I’d post some. Halloween is my favorite holiday, my husband and I even got married the night before Halloween:)

Here’s the first of this years Halloween creations, some soldered pendants. My favorite is the little wizard with the toad charm, I think he might be related to the Weasley family;)

Counter clockwise from the top I’ve titled them: “Waiting for the Full Moon”, “Wittiest Wizard”, “Just Witchy” and “Best Witch in Her Class”.

Wear it or Play with it?

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Here’s a super fun jewelry piece I made using a scrabble tile game piece. I wrapped the edges of the game tile with copper tape and soldered around the edges. No glass involved! I also soldered a jump ring to the top to hang it from.

These are great for a necklace, charm bracelet, fob, cell phone charm, hanging from your cars review mirror, just about any place.
