For Lenore

Monday, February 4th, 2013

I recently found an amazing antique book from 1912 about famous poets and I cut out some text from Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven” for a soldered charm on this mixed media necklace. I also added a book and pen nib charm too.

Shabby Nest Collage

Been working on some new collages on vintage BINGO cards. Here’s the first, it’s got a pretty bird and German scrap paper nest, vintage silver button, lace flower and layers of felt and music paper with white washed scrabble tiles. It hangs from pink grommets and wire.

Dia de Los Muertos

Monday, October 29th, 2012

A nearby Art Gallery is having an exhibit/contest for local artists, the theme is Day of the Dead and the medium is Artist Trading Cards (ATC’s). Here are my entries. I used a combination of collage with stamps (traditional and digital) and some copies of vintage clip art.

Ooky Spooky

Been playing around with more new Halloween stamps from Inkadinkado.

Voodoo Charms Necklace

I’m in love with the Voodoo Doll stamps, a cute witch and funky cat. I thought they’d make perfect shrink plastic charms so I stamped them on white shrink plastic using Staz-On ink, colored them with colored pencils, punched a hole for the jump rings and strung them on a chain. I also added a small domino with the word “Voodoo”.

Death Head Moth Collage

This Death Head Moth stamp is spooky but also seemed a little vintage to me, like an insect specimen so I made a collage with a vintage feel with it. It’s on layers of pattern paper embellished with vintage lace, a vintage button and a chipboard label with brads.

Sinister Trick or Treat Bag Card

This X-Ray of a Trick or Treat bag is just so evil! Along with the candy there is a razor blade in the apple, brass knuckles and a big knife. Probably not a stamp for everyone but I like twisted things so I think it’s really cool 🙂 I added some poison labels cut from some pattern paper and added the color tinting with small sponges and ink.

The Birds and the Bees

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

I got out my bees wax last week and made some encaustic collages.

The first is on a small 3×3 canvas with a blue bird and cage on vintage music sheet paper and a quote from William Blake. I coated the entire front with melted wax and then wrapped the edges with ribbon and added a vintage wooden game piece.

Blue Bird Bees Wax Collage

This next one I wanted to look like a page from a naturalists notebook. It’s a small canvas board on top of a larger canvas board, both covered in wax. The quote is on fabric and I added some faux grass for the nest, some scrabble tiles, part of a wooden measuring stick and ink pen nib.

My Dear Mr. Darcy,

Friday, June 15th, 2012

Here’s a charm bracelet inspired by one of my all time favorite authors, Jane Austen. I stamped and shrunk a silhouette of a woman from shrink plastic, soldered two scrabble tiles and added dictionary words to each, along with a hand holding a heart charm and a ink pen nib. I’m really happy with how it turned out.
