Bird Egg Nest

Monday, April 13th, 2015

Over on Craft Gossip I’ve shared a product review for some new items from Imagine Crafts and I wanted to share that project along with some instructions and step by step photos of how I made my project.

I started out using Black and Brown Staz On ink pads to stamp my bird, egg and nest onto clear acetate. I turned the acetate over and used the new Staz On Studio Glazes (in Emerald City, St. Valentine and Cotton White)  to color my images.  After letting the glaze dry it becomes shiny and a little transparent and on a clear service it gives an amazing stained glass effect! If you color outside of the edges you can push the glaze back using the sponge tip tools , these tools also work well for swirling colors, like I did with the blue and white on the egg. Next I attached my stamped acetate to a piece of sticky back canvas paper and cardstock using brads.

Next onto a canvas board I swiped streaks using the Blue Hawaii Staz On Midi ink pad and Broze Delicata Ink and then using one of the Palette knife tools I spread streaks of  Bronze Metallic Creative Medium.  After that dried I also sprayed some white Irresisitable ink spray.

Lastly I used Black Staz On to stamp my quote for Emily Dickinson onto canvas paper and used the Black Radiant Neon Amplify to go over the large letter H. Amplify comes in bright neon colors as well as black and white and when heated with a heat tool it puffs up for texture and dimensionThen I adhered my words to my canvas and was done.  I love how it turned out!

This custom collage was made for a friend to give as a gift to someone who loves Poe as much as I do.

Here’s some details on how I made it:

-paint a 5″ x 7″ canvas board with gray paint,

-tear a page from a vintage book and adhere on canvas using gel medium

-print vintage clip art image of Poe on cardstock and die cut, layer scallop die cut behind and adhere to canvas

-stamp raven on book page scrap, cut out and adhere

-wrap bottom of canvas with black mesh ribbon and layer on crumped and inked crepe paper

-on a metal label embellishment stamp “nevermore” with Staz-On ink, adhere over ribbon and crepe paper

-glue pen nib to metal embellishment

-on back of large domino stamp skeletons with Staz-On ink, color sides of domino with black Sharpie marker, adhere to canvas

– adhere game tiles that spell “POE” to canvas

Thanks for stopping by and have a Happy Halloween!

Too early??

Tuesday, October 15th, 2013

Is it too early for holiday projects? I just did a review over on Craft Gossip for the Silhouette Printable Canvas and thought it would be perfect for a tree ornament. I printed a digital stamp onto the canvas, coloring it with markers and adding some white puffy paint to his hat. I die cut the canvas twice with a label shape, since the canvas is sticky I was able to sandwich the pieces together with some batting in the middle to make a cute puffy fabric ornament.

Take Flight

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

A while ago a friend cleaned out her craft closet and gave me lots of cool stuff to play with. One of the things she gave me was a bag of angel wings she’d removed from some old ornaments. It took awhile to figure out what I wanted to do with them but I got the crazy idea to mount a small canvas on the front and I came up with…The Queen of Flight. There’s layers of vintage paper, felt, rhinestones, book text, a vintage button and a charm dangling from the bottom too. I think she’s ready to take flight!

For Lenore…..

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

For this collage I used the raven and skull stamp from Inkadinkado on vintage book paper, it’s embellished with a binder clip and ink pen nib that’s dripping ink. The bottom border is black mesh ribbon, crepe paper and an embossed metal plate that says “nevermore”. I tied some hemp string with a hand and heart charm around the plate. I almost didn’t want to sell it I love it so much but I’ve listed it in my Etsy shop 🙂

Halloween Night

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

This week over on Craft Gossip I did a review of Pentel art supplies.I really liked everything I tried especially the tube watercolors and the Hybrid technica pen. I used them to make a primitive witch collage for Halloween. I drew her in pencil on watercolor paper, used a Pentel water brush and watercolors to color her in then went over my pencil lines with the Hybrid pen, her hair was done with their Pocket Brush pen. I cut her dress, mask and hat from pattern paper.

I also used some of their gel pens and markers for a couple of cards.
This card uses stamps from Lawn Fawn colored with markers.

Gnome Home Card

These stamps are from Inkadinkado and colored with gel pens.

A Mermaid’s Tale

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

Continuing with an ocean theme, I made this mermaid collage. I’ve done lots of collage art with fairies inside jars and I thought why not a mermaid? So I turned the jar on it’s side and put actual sand in the bottom. I also added a background of vintage inspired map paper, a label, some actual small sea shells and a real working compass. Then I wrapped the entire canvas in some netting. I love how it turned out. I need to think of more things to capture in jars 🙂

The Birds and the Bees

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

I got out my bees wax last week and made some encaustic collages.

The first is on a small 3×3 canvas with a blue bird and cage on vintage music sheet paper and a quote from William Blake. I coated the entire front with melted wax and then wrapped the edges with ribbon and added a vintage wooden game piece.

This next one I wanted to look like a page from a naturalists notebook. It’s a small canvas board on top of a larger canvas board, both covered in wax. The quote is on fabric and I added some faux grass for the nest, some scrabble tiles, part of a wooden measuring stick and ink pen nib.

I’m Stuck on You

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

I found the cutest little canvas boards at the craft store a few weeks ago! I’ve used the larger sizes for a long time and was thrilled to find these mini ones. I personally like boards instead of stretched canvas for a lot of projects, they are sturdy and “firm”, you don’t have that sagging in the middle of a regular canvas.

I thought they were the perfect size for magnets so I made a couple of birds and a fairy one too. Perfect for a little art on your fridge or file cabinet.
