It seems strange to be making a winter card right now, this has got to be one of the mildest winters in Ky I can ever remember! But the challenge this time over at Lawnscaping is Winter Wonderland so I broke out my Making Frosty Friends and Critters in the Forest sets. This cute little snowy owl is sporting earmuffs and sitting on a tree stump that’s covered in liquid applique snow and glitter. The background paper is from Close To My Heart and I thought it went perfectly with the stamped images.

A while ago I had found some lovely small vintage photos at an antique store. I think they must have been a type of model shot, some had the same girls in different outfits. They are the perfect size for jewelry. I turned this pretty girl into a fairy by adding blue wings to her. I didn’t want to cut the actual photo so I cut the edge of the wings to match her shoulders and applied them onto the photo. I also added the word “fly” from a vintage book and mounted her on vintage French book paper. The tiny collage is sandwiched between glass and soldered around the edges. Because the photo is black and white I added black patina to the solder to pull everything together.

Over at my blogging job as stamp editor at Craft Gossip I got the opportunity to review (and keep!!:)) a Silhouette die cutting machine. I am in love with this machine, it’s amazing! The generous people at Silhouette not only gave one to me but are also giving one away over at Craft Gossip. I wanted to give my readers a heads up, so follow this link and read my review and then leave a comment (at Craft Gossip not here) to be entered.
Here is my first project made with my new Silhouette, no surprise it’s an Alice and Wonderland theme! 🙂 I made an accordion card and cut out all the fun Wonderland characters with card stock and patterned paper with the Silhouette.

Here’s a couple of new charm necklaces I’ve made recently. I’m enjoying mixing altered and soldered game pieces and charms together.
The first one is sort of a pun, it’s a skeleton key necklace. A large metal key with a skull charm and a soldered domino charm with dancing skeletons.
This one is all Alice, a tiny glass bottle filled with blue beads and three soldered game charms, a domino with Alice on a blue background, an “A” scrabble tile with vintage “Alice” text and a vintage bingo tile with vintage “drink me” text.

For awhile I’ve been wanting to try something I haven’t before but I’d seen other artists do it and that’s cutting a section out of a chunky canvas and making a little box or niche inside the cut out. I was so worried I’d ruin the canvas I’d been putting it off. Finally I thought, well I’ll use a small canvas and just try, so I did and I’m thrilled with the results! I traced the shape I wanted to cut out on the back of the canvas and very carefully used an exacto knife to cut it. I then collaged the front like I normally would with vintage music paper lining up my paper with the hole and cutting that out too. I added a back to the canvas to complete the “box”, to the front I added the branch, bird, scrabble tiles and a piece of vintage wooden measuring stick and then added a nest I made out of silver wire and beads inside the niche. I will definitely be trying this again.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! We always celebrate in my family because we’ve got a lot of Irish ancestors and it’s also my brother’s birthday. When we were little we always left a piece of cake out for the leprechauns 🙂
Sadly I don’t have anything green to share but instead it’s blue. It’s a bird shrine box. I took a small wooden box with a hinged and latched lid that also has a wire screen in the front and painted it blue then used Tim Holtz’ crackle paint and distress inks to age the box. I added a tiny tag to the front door with the word “fly” cut from a vintage book. Inside I made a tiny collage from an image of a blue jay on some vintage music paper and over the door added the words “three blue eggs” also from a vintage book. My favorite part is the tiny wire nest I made and glued inside. I took a very long piece of thin blue wire and ran three blue speckled beads onto the middle and just started wrapping the wire around and around and then pushing it down around the sides of the beads to form a nest shape. It’s the first one I’ve made and I think I’ll probably be going to get lots of wire to make more:) Then finally I glued three vintage game piece to the bottom for feet.
