Charmed, I’m Sure

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

I wanted to share another mixed media charm necklace. It is on a ball chain and has a soldered stamped domino and a soldered round wooden game piece that I added vintage text too as well as a silver charm.  I love how these clink around and move as you wear them!

Caged Cards

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Here’s a few Art Cards I made with a cool new bird cage stamp. In the first two I used a template and patterned paper and cut out the bodice of a dress and added it to the top of the cage so it would look like a vintage “cage” dress form. I added a bird inside the cage and a tiny wire hanger to hang it from.

This card uses a quote from William Blake and I added a blue bird and some tiny black alphabet beads.

Soar High

Here’s another recent collage. Guess I’m on a quote kick, this one is inspired by a William Blake quote. It’s on 5″ x 7″ canvas board painted grey with vintage music sheet background. The cage is on a transparency and it’s embellished with a silver bird charm, metal key, metal clip, vintage measuring tape and letter beads.

Bird Cage William Blake Quote Collage

Dear Emily,

Friday, January 6th, 2012

I adore Emily Dickinson’s poetry. This collage was inspired by one of her most famous quotes. It’s on a 5″ x 7″ canvas board. The main images are of a bird cage and womans silhouette with a bird sitting on top of the cage. I embellished it with vintage measuring tape, a flower I made from muslin and a vintage button and a fountain pen nib.

Captured in 3D!

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

I found these cool little metal bird cages at the craft store and thought they were fun. I turned this one into a captured fairy cage. I used a photocopy of a cute vintage girl and adhered her to chipboard and cut her out, then added some chipboard wings behind her and a rhinestone. I put faux grass in the bottom of the cage and set her inside. Pretty simple but pretty cute too 🙂

White Washed

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

I’ve really been inspired lately by all the collages I’ve seen that are various shades of white, I love the “shabby” look of it. So I thought I’d give it a try. I white washed most of the items with gesso, sometimes adding water sometimes just straight from the bottle. First I white washed some vintage music paper and an image of a blue bird, then stamped the bird cage on transparency using white, I adhered the bird to the paper and then using my sewing machine I stitched the transparency onto the paper using different stitches. I then white washed a pair of Tim Holtz’ grungeboard wings (if you don’t know grungeboard is sort of a flexible type of chipboard, it’s very cool to work with), tied some string through a vintage button, added them to the board along with the words “spread your wings” and then added some vintage white lace across the bottom. It’s a very different look for me but I like it alot:)

Black Bird Singin’ In the Dead of Night

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Sorry, couldn’t resist the Beatles reference 🙂

Here’s another small canvas collage (3 3/4″ x 2 3/4″) I just finished, it’s another caged bird theme. Just can’t seem to get away from that theme lately, I think this one is a little sad and haunting. The background is vintage music paper and I stamped the words “Private Collection” down one side, adhered it to the canvas and inked up the edges, then wrapped black grosgrain ribbon around the canvas to hide the staples. I added the words “I live in a cage” cut from a vintage book and laid over the transparency with the cage. I then added the red winged black bird image and the tag tied with hemp string on top of the transparency.
